Do I need to use an external phono stage with my turntable?

The output of a turntable is usually at such a low-level that it is necessary for the signal to be amplified, and equalised by a phono stage, or preamplifier.

Our Alva turntables come with a built-in preamplifier which removes the need for an external phono stage and allows the connection of your turntable directly to any line-level input on your amplifier.

This preamplifier or phono amplifier on the Alva Turntables is switchable allowing connection to both line-level inputs, and the phono-level inputs of an external phono-stage.

Some amplifiers, such as the AXA35, AXR85, and AXR100 have a phono stage built into, allowing a direct connection to a turntable, or alternatively you may consider using an external phono stage, such as the Alva Duo or Alva solo.
